Alternative Programs

Although our goal is to get all of our patients eating a well-balanced, healthy diet comprised of whole foods, we recognize that sometimes the journey to that place is difficult. Some patients need to get there in phases, so we offer several alternative eating plans to make the process easier. Our modified plans often begin with one of these eating plans and are then tailored to each patients' individual needs.
  1. Ketogenic Diet Program
A ketogenic diet changes the way your body converts food into energy – creating a metabolic state where your body burns fat instead of carbohydrates for fuel. Burning ketones in place of glucose results in weight loss. It also causes a dramatic decrease in inflammation within the body and results in increased energy.  The ketogenic diet is fairly simple in its concept: real food consisting of a moderate amount of protein, a high amount of healthy fat, and very few carbohydrates.
At Heartland Weight Loss, we have advanced training in the ketogenic diet. We have been taught by the experts how to optimize the diet and how to medically manage patients who are choosing to enter ketosis. We offer support and education about the proper way to feed the body and maintain health in a ketogenic state.
  2. Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) Program
Our Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) Program causes nutritional ketosis using high quality medical grade meal replacements. The program is designed to be short-term and is very safe when done with intense medical supervision. It requires a significant commitment to both the eating plan and weekly office visits.  VLCD meal plans consist of medical-grade meal replacements consumed in very precise amounts, which are slowly tapered and replaced with a whole-food diet.
  3. LCD (Hybrid) Program
Our LCD program is a hybrid between the traditional Intensive Lifestyle Management (ILM) program and the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) program. This program incorporates whole foods with supplemental medical-grade meal replacements for the rest of the day.
