Nutrition Pillar: Partners & Resources

We strongly recommend working with someone with advanced training in both clinical nutrition and Obesity Medicine.  There aren’t many of them in the country – although we are lucky to have a couple right here in the Greater Kansas City Area!

There are a plethora of options out there.  If you are already familiar with or connected to one of them and can adapt it to the foundational principles of our nutrition program, that could also work.  Note: the nutritional baseline we recommend is not based on any caloric recommendations or macronutrient composition – it goes well beyond those baseline calculations.

Our recommendations are based on intake that:

  • minimizes insulin stimulation (directly and indirectly)
  • minimizes de novo lipogenesis (the creation of liver fat)
  • protects the gut microbiome (minimizing things that disrupt the delicate ecosystem)

Any plan that promotes ultra-processed foods and/or non-nutritive sweeteners is not aligned.

You may need to review the basics with someone unfamiliar with those foundational principles – many people are trained in nutrition, but it’s a general discipline that often doesn’t have a great deal of overlap with weight loss (other than the old-fashioned notion of helping people eat less, which is not very helpful!)

Meal Delivery/Meal Prep Options:

If time or ability to prepare healthy meals is a limitation, there are a plethora of companies that specialize in ready-to-eat options.  Not all of the meals provided by these companies are completely in line with the dietary modifications we recommend while on our program, but you are likely to find some good options here.  Having someone else prepare your meals for you increases the cost significantly.  Although this may help transiently, learning how to plan and prepare homemade meals is the best long-term solution for sustained weight loss on a budget.
