NORMAL=SICK
I’ve been practicing Obesity Medicine for ten years and I can’t count how many times patients have told me, “I just want to eat like everyone else (and not have excess weight).” I’m not sure who the “everyone else” is that they are referring to:
Over 42% of American adults have obesity, another 30% have pre-obesity/overweight, and many of us currently classified as “normal weight” are in remission from one of those conditions (or we haven’t lived long enough to develop them yet).
93% of American adults have at least one marker of metabolic disease
60% have one diagnosed chronic condition
42% have more than one diagnosis
Over 70% of American adults take at least one prescription drug daily
Normal = sick
If we want to be well, we have to live differently than everyone else. There’s simply no way around it.
